Pasadena Keller Williams Real Estate Broker and Trulia Pro, Irina Netchaev, wrote an great article in the Examiner titled - Nine stupid things buyers do to mess up their home purchase. The process of buying a home, especially for first time home buyers, can be a whirlwind of information overload. What to do? What not to do? What to know? So when I saw Irina’s post, it resonated with me and wanted to highlight her points her for our readers.
Here they are:
- Do NOT, and I mean, absolutely do NOT, quit your job in the middle of escrow.
- Home buyers – honestly – sometimes, you just talk too much.
- You, the home buyer, didn’t meet with a lender for a complete consultation to get preapproved and did not set a budget for your home purchase.
- Do not understand your mortgage choices.
- You are not being represented by a real estate agent.
- You saw the house, wrote the offer and never went back to check on the neighborhood.
- You did not get the home inspected by a professional inspector.
- You bought the most expensive house on the block
- Review all offer terms carefully.
You can read the entire article on the Examiner.

With the exception of #5, it seems like the agent could be at least partly to blame. Or, #10 could be, “Picking the wrong agent.”
