The Detroit Red Wings Bring Home the Stanley Cup

Real Estate News

Congratulations to the Detroit Red Wings on their 11th Stanley Cup win! I love it when good things happen for Detroit. It keeps my mind off the Pistons’ season, the mayoral scandal, the hemorrhage of jobs, the 75% high school dropout rate, the struggling auto industry, the amount of foreclosures… Well, at least for a moment. Of the 13,568 Detroit listings on Trulia, 10,716 are foreclosures. Seriously.

If you’re looking to buy in the D, you’re in luck. The inventory is expansive and inexpensive. Wings fans should check out 812 East Jefferson. What’s better than living within walking distance of the Joe? How about river views, a 24 hour health club and monitored parking? Pregame in style for just $219,000.

If you’re more Motown than Hockeytown, you might like an Aretha Avenue address. There are multiple new constructions listed right now on Trulia. This four bedroom home at 4316 Aretha has a security system, a sound system and a white picket fence. Oh, and it’s only $289,900.

Four bedrooms not enough? Looking for something with a little more history? You can get eight bedrooms, six baths, a three car garage and a pool at 1037 Iroquis. Take a look at that tree-lined street below. It could be your new neighborhood for $229,900.

Let’s say I have $1 million to spend (dream with me) on a home. Here in Manhattan, I might be able to score a small 2 bedroom, 1 bath condo in a doorman building. In Detroit, I could enjoy 12,800 square feet of lavish details in this 9 bedroom, 5 bath landmark mansion that takes up a half city block. And with $100K leftover, who needs a doorman? I could have a whole staff at 150 West Boston Boulevard.

Are you waiting for me to sell you the suburbs? It’s not going to happen. Detroit is full of good houses just waiting for good people to move in. I saved the best (and cheapest) for last. This place makes my heart hurt. Someone should live here; this house should not be empty. I’m in love with 506 Parkview Drive. Built over 100 years ago, this gorgeous mansion has an impressive façade, six bedrooms, three full baths, two half baths, fireplaces, round entranceways and a deck overlooking the Detroit River. All you need is $179,900. And maybe some power tools.

Yes they are nice homes but they are in Detroit. My ex-wife is from there and I have been to Detroit many times. Both houses she grew up in have been burned down. You could not give anyone in her family one of these homes you listed to live in and have them take it. They all choose the safety of the burbs. At least the 506 Parkview should be a safe neighborhood because the mayors home is right down the block. Oh wait, the mayor is a crook too. Oh well!!!
BTW the castle next to the 506 Parkview property is for sale also. 13,000SF for only $495,000 http://www.loopnet.com/xNet/MainSite/Listing/Profile/Profile.aspx?LID=15592897&StepID=101&RecentlyViewed=true&ItemIndex=17&PgCxtDir=Down
