Robbie over at Rain City Guide just did us a big favor (well, he didn’t do it for us…but we’re pleased anyway).
We are often asked by brokers and agents about how to get their listings on Trulia (and can they use the same feed to upload their listings to Google Base, Craigslist and others). We’ve got our how to guide here for Trulia, but we don’t have a “how to” for everyone else.
Robbie just went through the process for a client and provided a bloggers play-by-play. I imagine that the comments to his post will provide some interesting feedback from the community as well. Check it out!
Shameless self promotion: “And in 72 hours, I noticed referrals from Trulia was already generating about 4% of the site’s traffic!”

I wanted to add that Trulia was the easiest company to provide a feed for.
Although to be fair, I just added PropSmart support last night, and it was just as easy. I only wish multiple MLS support was this easy to implement!
BTW - Do you prefer to have the at the beginning of your feed document or not? That was one thing I wasn’t sure of when I was developing this. Everybody else wants one and your sample feed/documentation didn’t mention it.

Apparantly your blog sysmtem messes up html/xml tags in comments.
I meant to say “Do you prefer to have the <?xml version=”1.0″?> at the beginning of your feed document or not”

Read through the comments over on the post. There are some great reasons Brokers should NOT send their listings to Trulia and PropSmart, and why you guys are getting so much resistance from the real estate industry. Very informative.

Uhh - dohh! You guys are getting slammed in the comments section of that post on Rain City Guide. Maybe you should chime in before some of those vocal realtors get everyone on board to not send you any listings. Also, you can easily refute the “is Trulia a viable company b/c it has limited cash” type of question, too. Good luck! You guys need a PR firm/flack as Zillow is kicking your butt! Come on. Get in there and fight!

Thanks for the heads up Keith.
I just posted a comment on RainCityGuide to clarify things. As a business, we’re doing really well and extremely viable with our current model!
Thanks

Hi Robbie -
The beginning line of an XML document that you are referring to is called the XML declaration and is purely optional. We can handle your feed in either case.
Thanks,
- Brian
